Our Brand-new Facility
Shattuck Child Care Center’s (SCCC) new 4,200 sf state-of-the-art customized center will be on the ground floor of 2Life Communities Brooke House at Olmsted Village on the former Boston State Hospital site in Mattapan. Along with a dedicated 1,700 sf playground, walking paths will connect the Center to the Boston Nature Center and other outdoor amenities. Being in this area will ease the shortfall of affordable early childhood education seats and co-location in a senior housing community will allow opportunities for intergenerational engagement. With your help, SCCC will continue providing high quality, affordable childcare with our core principles embedded in our approach—diverse in every way, integrated into the community, and a partner to families with young children.

Their values of “loving kindness, community and repairing the world” align perfectly with ours. 2Life’s vision for bringing together senior housing, community healthcare, child care, and supports for foster-adoptive families and youth aging out of the foster care system is exactly the opportunity we have sought these last 8 years.
Our History
The SCCC has provided exceptional early childhood care and education for children ages 15 months through 6 years old since opening its doors on the grounds of the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in 1969. Since 2017, when our building was decommissioned by the state, the Board and leadership have been looking for a permanent community-based location to house our unique and special childcare center.
Our Goal
We need to raise $250,000 by 2028 for all our needs, including the move to the new location, furniture, a fully funded Tuition Assistance Program, and strategic reserves to ensure our future stability.

The Mary Grace Casey Play Yard
As part of the site, we plan to honor Mary Grace’s incredible commitment and dedication over 45 years at SCCC by naming the playground in our new location at Brooke House in Mattapan, The Mary Grace Casey Play Yard.
